Le Fardier

La fabricación / The making

In 1765 Nicholas Cugnot, a French military engineer, began his studies and experiences to develop the first vehicle capable of transporting heavy guns, using non-animal energy. Finally, in 1769, he succeeded with his second prototype. “Le Fardier” as he called his creature, was the first example of a self-propelled vehicle, which used steam as its energy source.

“Le Fardier” was a heavy, unstable and difficult to drive, and it only reached a speed of 4 km / hour. In 1771, the inventor hit a wall of a barracks. So, as well as being the builder of the first vehicle, Cugnot also had the dubious privilege of starring the first car accident in history, which, by the way, took him to jail for damaging the property of Her Majesty.

The driver figure was made for this model by the artist Guillermo Centeno.
